E.M. DVD Ripper is a DVD ripping software for Windows. When you download it, you will find a somewhat pleasant surprise. The first time you run the application, an application launcher will come up and you will see three main options: Burn, Rip, and Copy. Those are all different applications. The one we are dealing with here is Rip, but it is nice to see that even the shareware version has so many built-in freebies. The DVD ripper seems rather basic. Graphically, DVD Ripper consists of a video player on the right part of the screen, from where you can cut the video using the media controls. Below that, there are advanced settings, which allow you to change output format and DVD input settings. On the left part of the screen is the list of files that are being converted. It is unclear whether this can do any batch-processing, but I find it unlikely. The supported output formats are MPEG, Xvid, MP4, DivX, AVI, FLV, WMV, ASF, 3GP, 3G2, MOV, M4V, and MPG. Some of those formats are ideal for mobile devices like cell phones, PSPs, etc. And some are good for gaming consoles. This app also allows you to shrink your DVD to fit in a smaller DVD. Also, like most other rippers, you can select individual titles and chapters and work with them in isolation. All in all, the ripper is quite basic in features. However, the addition of the Editing and Burning options make it a better-than-average program.
