eDocFile Tiff to Text Download

eDocfile Tiff to Text is a small application designed to batch-convert any amount of TIFF image files into plain text documents using Optical Character Recognition technology. The OCR used by this tool is actually a Microsoft product – Microsoft Office Document Imaging (MODI). If you happen not to have it installed already on your computer, the program will gladly grab it and launch the installation for you.

The only file types supported are TIFF for the input and TXT for the output, that makes it a very specific tool with limited usability. The GUI provided is intended to be used with a large number of files, which need to be stored in the same folder. The program will then allow you to output only the resulting text files or to put them together with a copy of the original image. You will not find any high-tech features or settings in this simple tool, but you will certainly like its speed and its efficiency. Knowing that the output is invariably plain text, do not expect any fancy results – the layout will be reduced to a long list of text lines with the necessary line breaks. Graphical or unrecognizable elements in the input file will result in strings of garbage that you need to clean up carefully before attempting to reuse the document.

For one-file conversions, you can also use its command line version, which provides very little flexibility – merely, the option to add page breaks to the output file.
