TBBackup Download

Downloading TBBackup 2.1

TBBackup is a Thunderbird back up and restore tool. It allows you to backup pretty much every bit of data that Thunderbird keeps on your system into a single file that can be then burned onto a DVD or stored somewhere else for safe keeping. You can then restore the back-up file after a system crash or reinstallation.

TBBackup has a main window from where all the application's features can be accessed. There are three main things you can do with it: create a backup, restore a backup, or view the files inside a backup file. The creation and restoration of a backup are done via wizards. These take you step by step and ask you exactly what you want to backup and where to put it. Other than your e-mails, TBBackup can backup your settings, certificates, passwords, contacts, and history, among other things.

You can encrypt your backup file, so that no one can access it. There is a step during the wizard that asks you to type in a password. There is no mention regarding the encryption algorithm used, but there is a warning that you shouldn't lose your password.

I like the fact that you can view the contents of a backup file without having to restore it. This could be a time-saver when you have lots of backup files and are unsure of which one you have to use.
