FilmShrink 0.3 beta Download

Downloading FilmShrink 0.3 beta

There are many programs to make backups of DVD movies in various formats. However, FilmShrink is one of the few, if not the only one, that allows you to encode them into RealMedia Player format. To do this, the package takes advantage of many tools developed by different authors, such as Helix DNA(TM) Producer 10, Avisynth, libifo (from LiVid), DGMPGDec/DVD2AVI, Decomb, liba52, libdts/libdca, MAD/libmad, VSFilter, Toolbar2000, TBX, Windows XP Theme Manager, and Nuvola icon pack. This program is developed to run on Windows and has a relatively simple and easy-to-understand interface.

To start, you must add a New Job - this opens a wizard which shows you first a window where you must assign a name to the job, a destination folder and the source DVD, then click "Next" and the program will analyze your DVD's contents (this process is slow). When the wizard finishes, it shows you the content divided in chapters. You should select the chapter you want to encode and click "Next". After waiting for a while, you will see the encoding options window, which is divided in four tabs: General, Video, Audio and Summary - they contain the encoding options allowed for your copy (I preferred the default settings). Click Finish to close the wizard. Now you have created your Job. Then, you should click on the Encode button (Top right side of the menu bar) to start the process. You can add several jobs and use the Batch Encode button.

While your DVD is being encoded, you can see that the Elapsed time and Remaining time counters are absolutely inaccurate. When the process is finished, you obtain a good-quality rm or rmvb file (according to the settings selected in the Video tab of the encoding options). FilmShrink also has options to set the priority of the encoding process and to turn off the computer when finished.

The developer asks for RealMedia 10+ installed, but I had good results using real alternative. And after all, I'm wondering if anybody likes the rm format.
